We’ve been streaming live every Wednesday night over at Ship Chasing, and lately it’s been a lot of drafting. Tonight will be a pretty great one, because my Stealing Bananas cohost Shawn Siegele is joining Pete Overzet, Pat Kerrane, and myself for a four-person Main Event draft on FFPC. We’re going live at about 9:50 ET at this link, which will just take you to YouTube if you’re not hip to all the fancy streaming the kids are doing these days.
I’m particularly excited for this one because Shawn, Pat, and Pete are three of my favorite analysts, and three dudes who influence how I think about all this stuff. Hopefully you’re also subscribed to RotoViz to get Shawn’s great work and following Pat at NBC Sports Edge. Pete is always doing all sorts of stuff, but he also doesn’t get nearly enough credit as a football analyst, and I’m not sure I’ve mentioned he writes the Fantasy Life newsletter, which is fantastic. I caught up on a few past editions today, and his writeup for today covered some very useful information about roster cuts, which is a quick and entertaining read I recommend.
But tonight is the stream, and it’s live, and you’ll get a lot of candid takes about a lot of players, as well as four dudes talking strategy and draft structure throughout. It should be an absolute blast but also an opportunity to learn quite a bit about how we approach harder draft rooms. Even if you’re just in home leagues, I think that process should be pretty applicable, though the conclusions will obviously be different.
Alright, one quick fantasy take. I convinced myself today Tyler Kroft is going to be an actual thing this year. Consider it one of those tacit knowledge things, because I can’t really explain it. I’ve been wanting to write it up all day and don’t have much — best I could do is there’s enough talent at WR to make him an afterthought for defenses but not enough to seriously prevent him from getting looks, he looks likely to be the clear main TE who could run an absolute ton of routes after the Jets basically cut or traded everyone else (like Logan Thomas last year and Darren Waller’s breakout before that), and the team will be bad so they will have to throw but I don’t think so bad that they won’t have fantasy value. I’ve noted I think the Jets are a bit undervalued across the board.
To be clear, I don’t think Kroft is going to do Thomas or Waller things. But I’m straight up saying I think he’s going to be fantasy viable and picked up in a lot of leagues. The Jets were using him in a stand-up slot role in the preseason a little bit, and he caught two touchdowns — one of which was also on a rollout where he leaked and caught a pass wide open with plenty of room to run. That play was extremely reminiscent of how San Francisco uses George Kittle, and now I’ve named a third good TE while talking about a dude who almost certainly isn’t good, but it’s a reminder that the Jets’ coaching staff came over from the 49ers and that designed play was pretty interesting to me as well.
If you haven’t subscribed yet, don’t forget to give me $8 to see my rankings and everything I’ve written this month. I’ve updated those rankings every morning for the past couple weeks, and if you took subscribers’ words for it, you’d think they were indisputably perfect (they’re not … I don’t think?).
See ya at 9:50 ET!
